Music Spotlight - Let’s Discover Something New

Penguin Music

There was a time in my life when I owned a music store called Penguin Music. Of all the things that came with running a shop—gear, records, conversations, and the constant soundtrack playing in the background—the part I loved most was introducing people to music they had never heard before.

Watching someone discover a band for the first time was hard to beat. Whether it was The Black Crowes, Joe Louis Walker, or Rage Against the Machine, there was nothing better than handing someone something new and knowing it might become part of their life forever.

Handing someone an album they didn’t know they needed. Watching them come back later saying, “Where did you find this?” That feeling never really leaves you.

So that’s the spirit behind this new weekly music feature here on Tahlequah Times.

Each week, we’ll spotlight artists, albums, songs, scenes, and sounds that deserve a little more attention. Some will be brand new. Some forgotten. Some classic. Some strange. Some beautiful. Some all of the above.

And speaking of strange…

First Up: Angine de Poitrine

We’re starting weird.

Angine de Poitrine

If you’ve never heard of Angine de Poitrine, you’re not alone—and that’s kind of the point.

The mysterious duo from Quebec performs under the names Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine, keeping their real identities private and letting the music speak louder than biography. In an age where everyone is trying to be seen, there’s something refreshing about artists who choose mystery.

And the music? Completely unlike anything else.

Their sound blends experimental rock, strange grooves, surreal textures, tribal energy, and moments that feel both chaotic and carefully controlled. At the center of it all is Khn de Poitrine’s remarkable microtonal double-neck guitar/bass featuring complex, non-standard fret spacing that allows notes between traditional half-steps.

In simple terms, they can play sounds that standard guitars were never designed to reach.

Those in-between notes create a feeling that is unfamiliar, hypnotic, tense, and beautiful all at once. It’s the kind of sound that can stop you in your tracks because your ears know something unusual is happening.

Meanwhile, Klek de Poitrine’s drumming anchors the madness with primal rhythm and force, giving the duo a surprisingly powerful live presence.

Why Listen?

Because in a world where algorithms keep feeding us more of the same, strange music matters.

  • It reminds us there are still unexplored corners.

  • It reminds us creativity doesn’t need permission.

  • It reminds us art can still surprise us.

If You’re Curious

Don’t go in expecting polished radio hooks or predictable song structures. Put on headphones. Give it time. Let it be strange.

Sometimes the best music isn’t the music you instantly understand—it’s the music that lingers after it ends.
